QUESTION 7- WHAT IS THE BASIC PURPOSE OF STAFF COUNSELLING?


Counseling is the practice of aiding people to search and recognize private difficulties and develop their potential.

There are several types of counseling that can be used in the work environment; namely:
*      Disciplinary counseling
This style of counseling is typically a never-to-be-repeated interview dealing with inferior principles of conduct or performance than are normal at work. Often there are explanations why this is happening and the advising interview should aim to find out what they are and how to deal with them.
Disciplinary counseling attempts to carry a finish to under-performance without taking disciplinary action.

*      Personal counseling

This occurs when you have private difficulties and want guidance or support. The difficulty may be disturbing your physical or mental health. 
Personal counseling is given in case of the following:
  • stress
  • bullying and harassment
  • depression
  • alcohol abuse
  • drug abuse
The basic purposes are of staff counseling:-
  • Giving assistance to an employee regarding job-related difficulties.
  • Help a worker to have a renewed self-confidence and boost.
  • Enabling a better worker-to-manager relationship.
  • Boosting a positive transformation in the worker's performance, beliefs and actions if particularly if it is a problem regarding his/her work.
